OOC: Mobs of Poporia

Going to take an intermission from my normal entries to do a photo dump of different monsters I’ve encountered thus far in Poporia regions as I found them to be very different from anything I’ve fought thus far in game.

So leave it to a Korean-based MMO to give the most adorable nature-loving race with the prettiest city (Pora Elinu) the freakiest fucking monsters in the game to surround its outlying regions.

My exact words when I first encountered the Blood Fiends “When the fuck did I start playing Silent Hill??!!” Admittedly I love how absolutely creepy these baddies are, with their freaky ability to morph between quadrupeds to bipeds and weird stomach tongues… but I mean damn, if I were a popori and saw these beasts, I’d run tail.

I was surprised to find the story on these guys and the “alamani thumpers” to be extremely lacking. Apart from popori referring to the lot of them as “mutated walking weapons” no one seems to be interested in delving into it further. I guess the general assumption is “blood magic” but no one seems concerned that along with their limbs being severed they’ve had giant weapons added on to them?

Am I the only one that laughed super hard when I fought the jockeys? When you knock them down the little mummy one will run up to the jockey and kneel down so he can climb on his shoulders again. I think these guys have one of the best monster animations I’ve ever seen!

My reaction: “Wtf, vampirs?! Really???? And they all wear the same outfit?!” Even the duchess and the duke, which are cutscene mobs, are just scaled up versions of their lessers, no different wardrobe. :’( That made me sad.

“When the did I start playing Bioshock?”
These guys actually bothered me a lot because of their placement. They’re right by the humanoid Blood Mages and Vampirs. I just felt like their storyline wasn’t well explained enough for them to actually be hanging around in this area and their overly-cartoon style felt out of place with the more serious creatures. As cool as they were to look at, I think it would have been less jarring to put them somewhere else in game.

Gotta love the creepy animated dolls with giant bloody butcher knives.

The City of Wheels… How long has it been since I was last here?

Hours turn into days, days into weeks, weeks into months. The last time I’d left Velika, it was on the return expedition as a volunteer headed for the Island of Dawn. When I’d glanced back over my shoulder on the pegasus ride to bid the city farewell, I had doubted I’d ever see this giant wheeled city again.

The Island of Dawn was a place filled with horrifying beauty, nightmares had kept my mind flooded the entire time I was there, constantly reminding me of the failed First Expedition. When I felt my blade strike the final chord in Karascha’s gullet, I felt freedom. My debt to Commander Elleon had been repaid, whether he’s alive to see it or not. The final missive that Leander translated gives me hope however that the Valkyon Champion yet lives.

As the pegasus disappeared from under me and my feet landed gently on the stone flight deck of Velika, I let out a sigh of relief. Hundreds of voices greeted my ears, all general talk of the bustling city. A city where alman traded with high elves, baraka scolded castanics, and popori challenged humans to duels. A city teaming with life and thanks to the goddess Velik’s protection, a city that kept peace for all.

This city is still as awe-inspiring to me as it was the first day I came here from Pora Elinu. With its huge wheels and statues to the goddess Velik everywhere, it was larger than anything I’d ever seen. Even the buildings are larger than anything I could have imagined. Everything here is made of stone, metal and lumber; if someone had described this city to me, I would have said a city so far away from nature would “feel cold.”…. Yet that is just the opposite feeling I get from the city of Velika. All the people in this city give me such a feeling of warmth that I wouldn’t mind staying here for many years.

I was moved to see all of the civilians and soldiers of different races and backgrounds working together and coexisting here in Velika. Pora Elinu almost exclusively houses elin and popori; its diversity is no match for Velika. This was the first place I ever became friendly with those of other races who hailed from different parts of Arun. I’ve even met other elin here who long left Pora Elinu behind and called other cities their homes.

The question I must now answer for myself is where shall my path take me? For the last few months I was consumed with aiding Commander Elleon, but with him narrowly escaping from whatever demonic hellhole that bound him, there’s no way for me to locate him now; I’m sure he’ll find me if he decides he is in need of my aide.

Her majesty, in her infinite wisdom, has ordered me to assist the Valkyon Federation in whatever tasks they require; should she have need of me on the argon front she’ll send word. Until then, I must continue with the tasks the Federation needs. I sometimes feel like a sell-sword in all of this.

I met many people on the Island of Dawn, some I would now even call “friend”. Most were curious as to why an elin so devoted to her majesty would become a slayer and journey to the Island of Dawn.

I guess I’ve never written down an explanation of it, but I suppose the simplest answer is that the path of the slayer chose me, not the other way around.

Pora Elinu is no longer a peaceful place, dark creatures surround my homeland. The vampirs that we use to consider allies have turned against us, a sickness spreading amongst them. Strange mutations of creatures and people are appearing outside of the city and wrecking farmlands. Many simple civilians and farmers alike have taken up the path of the soldier in an attempt to survive and defend their homelands.

I was no different, once I was a student of the Eldritch Academy, run by the Witches of Vadoma. But then the attacks came on the city and her majesty called we elin to her side.

“We must arm ourselves against this threat, those of you who are not already soldiers are one today. Each of you will be tested to find the field that best suits you and you will be trained from this moment on.”

The testing was intense but it was nothing to the training that came afterwards. I was first handed a lance and shield but I couldn’t grasp the proper techniques. Then I was handed a bow and arrows but my aim wasn’t on-point enough. Eria believed in my mind and tested my magical prowess but it was to no avail. Exhausted and dejected that I was to become just a humble reserve soldier and would be unable to assist her majesty directly on the argon front, I lay myself next to the burning hearth and closed my eyes to rest.

It was then in my mind that I had a vision of a great golden sword with the hilt of a golden dragon’s head. I clasped it in my hands and felt a wholeness that no other weapon before had given me. I could feel the immense weight of the blade yet somehow I could control it; my energy could feed into the blade and lighten its weight in my hands. I could see myself standing amongst the front lines watching the argon demons charge towards us, but I felt no fear. I knew I was strong, I knew I would continue to fight till my last breath and would not hand over my life so easily if I held this blade with me. This sword was to be an extension of my being, my life and its would be connected until the day it is torn from my grasp.

Upon awakening, I knew what test to take next, I would fight along the path of a slayer and serve her majesty as one of her most trusted soldiers.

It was with this purpose that I trained hard till I was well known among the ranks of Pora Elinu by my peers and her majesty. I was selected to fight across the lands of Shara with my warrior queen and push back the argon lines. It was there that my name became known to Commander Elleon and it was because of my deeds there that he approved me for the First Expedition.

My initial journey to the Island of Dawn started with honor and ended in chaos… I returned to Velika unconscious and covered in bandages. This time I stand proudly upon my second return to the City of Wheels. If my sword will aide the federation, then that is what her majesty wishes of me and her majesty’s wishes are the same as those of my goddess, the ever-loving Elinu.

I shall continue to fight for the Valkyon Federation and protect all the lands of Arun from the argon treachery.

Eria,
I’m sure word has reached you by now that I’ve left the Island of Dawn. News of my achievements across the island have reached some well-placed ears in Velika and I’ve been summoned here to better serve the Valkyon Federation by being reassigned. I haven’t been informed of my new post yet but I’ll send you another letter to let you know my next station.
With Elinu’s & her Majesty’s blessing,
Anareh

So, I’ve returned to Velika, the City of Wheels. Only recently has this city become the capital of the Valkyon Federation and bastion of civilization on the continent of Arun. It is a city where all peoples gather: human, high elf, aman, baraka, castanic, popori and elin alike have made home in Velika.

Once, a long time ago, the god Gidd, one of the twelve original gods dreamed into existence by the titans Arun & Shara, created the human race. The human race turned out to be troublesome to the god however as they coveted the vain god’s prized possessions: Perios, his winged horse and Cranos, his greatspear. They tried to steal both from Gidd in a plan to use them as leverage against the god to bend his will for their own selfish desires. Enraged by this betrayal, Gidd cursed the human race, forcing them to be doomed to wander the world for 2,000 years with no hearth nor home.

It was Gidd who led the other gods of Arun into battle during the Divine War but due to the trickery of the goddess Akasha, he was killed.

The goddess Velik, child of Gidd and Zuras, took pity on the humans when she grew tired of the Divine War. She offered an end to their curse and in return they adopted her as their patron. The city of Velika was erected in her name. Velik vowed to end violence within the vicinity of her city; she wanted all to be able to live within her walls safely. However when racial tenses broke out as more and more filtered into the city, Velik became enraged that her presence and proclamation were ignored.

And so the “Night of Black Arrows” came to pass, the night where it is said that Velik stalked the streets and ended anyone who dared break her vow of “peace for all”. Hundreds died that night, human and nonhuman alike.

Yet Velik is a pure goddess, considered the Goddess of Hunt and of Bravery. The humans still view her as their patron as she granted them an end to their nomadic existence. Since the construction of Velika, many other individuals from different races have chosen to ally themselves with Velik and honor her.

The moment finally came, I made my way deep through the Tainted Gorge with my sword slung onto my back.  I fought my way through the runekeepers that guarded the teleportal that hid deep within the gorge.  Finally I stood before it, I held my breath as I touched the glowing stone.

Instantly I was whisked away to a dark passageway, the smell of death filled the place.  My only companion was a baraka mercenary priest, Leman, that Sersine had offered to send with me.

He didn’t speak much, telling me only to stay near him if I wanted to be healed.  He seemed to only watch the battles that came soon after our entrance into the dark tunnels.  I kept the creatures inside away from him and in return he kept his magic trained on me.

Finally we reached the end, the eerie sickness I’d felt since entering the cave doubled.  The beast was before us now.  Karascha the Dark Wing.  It sensed our presence and started drawing dark energy to itself, screeching that we’d never defeat it.

I refused to wait for it to gather its power, unsheathing my sword, I charged.

My swings were powerful as I sliced the demon again and again.  I narrowly managed to dodge its onslaught of powerful attacks; often I became grateful of Leman’s service as his well timed magical healing spells often saved me from the brink of complete blood-loss.

Then with one last lunge at Karascha’s chest, he fell.

“They told me…guard this place…until the shield is up.  You fought well…but I did it.  And soon, the demon-god Lok will resurrect me.  You haven’t won at all! Ha ha ha ha!”

That is what the creature shouted before its body disintegrated into energy.  Its words will haunt me for a long time but now Commander Elleon is avenged and my debt feels repaid.

The only thing this creature left behind was one last missive, probably some orders meant to be sent to its equally delusional followers.  I will return it to Sersine at once and then I shall find Leander and tell him of this news.

———-

To my surprise, Leander was already waiting for me at Sersine’s camp.  The pair of high elves stood upon my arrival and told me they had felt the shift in energy from there, they knew I’d won.

Leander took the missive from me without question and read it eagerly.  He said it wasn’t written by the creature Karascha, rather it had been a message to him.

His eyes lit up and he read the final part of the message aloud,
“Elleon escaped our grasp.  We’ve notified agents in Arun to find him and silence him once and for all.”

I could see in his face as he looked down at me that he felt even more relief than I did at that news.  Him and I were right to believe that Elleon survived the mountaintop battle and somewhere, he’s escaped the demons’ grasps.

Leander and I agreed that I should return to Adria at once and let her know what Leander has found.  For now, we’ve thought it best to keep the news between us four (Leander, Sersine, myself and Adria).

I shall make my way to Town Base immediately to inform Adria of my success against Karascha and of what news we’ve found of Elleon’s fate.

Hot as fuck here too, I feel you. I can’t get anything done with this heat and ridiculous humidity. In my case, fuck Florida. >_> For sunburn, I recommend a Aloe.

Wow I forgot about Aloe. how the…

lol Aloe saves souls! ♥  I use to work on a boat as an event entertainer, very glad I decided to leave before summer started, no way I would have survived.  Unlike most, I really like Florida even with it’s burning summers, I’d take heat over cold any day.  Humidity is cruel no matter where you are though if it hits your area. It’s like you should be able to swim in the air, just so heavy and wet. :(

Island of Dawn • Preparation for the Final Battle

My reunion with Leander was brief, it took him only a moment to translate the codex I’d discovered on Kugai’s body.

No mention of Elleon was written in it, a disappointment to us both.

However what Leander did discover is that Karascha still breathes on this island and is gathering power and allies for some nefarious purpose… though I didn’t quite catch what Leander had mumbled to himself, it sounded as though something was written about Lok being alive still. He brushed it off though and shook his head, saying clearly Karascha was delusional.

“Demons are very mercenary and will work for nearly anyone; whoever bound Karashca to their will is very dangerous,” Leander had said, “This codex must be wrong but Karascha must be stopped whether it is or not… besides, Karascha’s responsible for Elleon’s…fate.”

I guaranteed him that Karascha will pay. This was the mission I’ve been waiting for, I shall take my vengeance on the beast.

With a final salute to Leander, I left him and turned my attention back toward the Tainted Gorge… My mind is now completely set with the idea of slaying Karascha with my own hands. Our team would have never lost to the beast if he hadn’t attacked us after the kumas demon had already exhausted us. Now I am refreshed and ready for battle; he won’t catch me by surprise this time and soon his flesh will taste my blade.

Be ready Karascha of the Dark Wing… I’m coming for you.
